The 2nd Community Meet of the Dzulhami, Khughutomi and Kilomi was held at Kilomi village local ground on January 14.
The event marked the deep-rooted ties of the Chakhesang and Sümi tribes of the three neighbouring villages and as attended by more than thousand people.
The meet was graced by president of Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), Vezühu Keyho, as special guest, and president of Sümi Hoho, Dr. Vihuto Assumi, as the guest of honour.
In his address, Dr Assumi described the meet as a powerful symbol of “unity, understanding, and shared heritage,” and applauded the three villages for their dedication and hospitality in organising the event. “It is programmes like these that bridge gaps, strengthen relationships, and bring brother tribes together,” he said.
He congratulated the newly elected CPO team and expressed that the Sümi Hoho looked forward to fostering a closer bond with the CPO to ensure harmony and progress for both communities.
“It was also heartening to note that the recent Chakhesang-Sümi Brotherhood Meet held at Pfutsero on November 26, 2024 reinforced these deep-rooted ties. Today’s gathering further cemented this brotherly bond, highlighting that their friendship goes beyond words and are cemented through shared actions and fellowship”, Dr Assumi said.
Acknowledging the peaceful resolution of past disputes, such as those between Dzulhami and Kilomi on May 1, 1992; Chepokita and Vishepu on January 12, 1999; and Khutsami and Iphonumi on April 19, 2016, Dr Assumi said those actions stood as remarkable examples of what can be achieved through wise leadership, patience, and a spirit of reconciliation.
“As Chakhesang and Sümi tribes, we are not just neighbours but family. Our shared values, traditions, and aspirations bind us together. The challenges of the modern world demand unity, fostering collaboration, respect, and mutual growth,” he said. He further called on the gathering to embrace this spirit of brotherhood and let this event serve as a beacon of hope for the Nagas as a whole.
CPO president, Vezühu Keyho, in his address, highlighted the resolution made on May 9, 1998, to resolve all inter-tribal and inter-village disputes between the two tribes. He said that there were no longer any land disputes between Sümi and Dzulhami communities, urging the attendees to carry this legacy forward.
He called upon the communities to strengthen bonds not only among Dzulhami, Kilomi, and Khughutomi but also across all Naga tribes. “This meet reflects our forefathers’ legacy of peace, understanding, and cooperation. Let us ensure future generations inherit this harmonious relationship,” he added.
In his welcome address, Otova Swu, vice-president of Sümi Hoho, recounted the historic ties between the two communities, dating back to 1934.
Purujo Nyekha, GB of Dzulhami, extended greetings on behalf of his village. Planning Board chairman, Atomi Swu, expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries for attending the event, and briefed on the beginnings of the gathering. The event featured cultural performances by the three villages and saw the attendance of several dignitaries, including former minister from Dzulhami— Zachilhu Ringa Vadeo, members of Sümi Totimi Hoho, Sümi Aphuyemi Kukami Hoho, village chiefs, council chairpersons, and church leaders.
