Team 11 clinched victory in the Open Penalty Shootout organized by Ao Youth Forum Diphupar (AYFD) on Saturday at the Diphupar Public Ground. It can be noted that the Open Penalty Shootout was organized by AFYD as a fund raiser for the proposed “Culture Connect” programme.
The champion team walked away with a cash prize of 70,000, while the runners-up received35,000. The losing semi-finalists were awarded 5,000 each, and the four losing quarter-finalists, along with the best goalkeeper, bagged2,000 each.
Speaking at the inaugural programme as the special guest, Engineer-in-Chief of the Department of Power, Wapangmeren Jamir highlighted the values sports bring to individual and society.
Jamir also underlined the importance of adhering to rules in sports, pointing that without rules the game would descend into chaos. Here, pointing that fair play and impartiality are only possible when rules are respected, he opined that if we extend the same principle to our daily lives, it could serve as a foundation for a better society, and encouraged all to work hard, abide by rules, and foster spirit of love.
The closing ceremony witnessed State BJP Council member and former advisor to Chief Minister, Bobby Panicker as the special guest, who gave away the prizes to the winners.
