Sechü Zubza Football Club (SZFC) officially launched its kit for the upcoming Nagaland Super League (NSL) 2025 during a ceremony held at Spicer Hall, Shalom Bible Seminary, Sechü Zubza, on Sunday.
Secretary of Excise and Prohibition, Kovi Meyase, who graced the occasion as the special guest, described sports as an industry that transcends advertisement, economy, and cultural impact. He remarked that football, as the most popular sport globally, has evolved into a blend of business and passion. Highlighting the growth of professional football, he noted that some of the wealthiest football clubs operate at par with multinational corporations.
Speaking on the significance of the NSL, Meyase described it as a landmark initiative that marks the coming of age of professional football in Nagaland. He said the league, while still in its humble beginnings compared to other states, was a giant leap for the state’s sports sector and an indicator of its potential. He commended SZFC for being one of the seven clubs participating in the league and thanked sponsors for their crucial support, which, he emphasized, sustains both the club and the league.
Meyase encouraged the club and its supporters to aim for higher leagues and hoped that sponsors would continue to strengthen the team and NSL as a whole. He expressed optimism about the club’s success, urging them to place their faith in God.
In a brief address, Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) president, Mhasimhalie Matthew Yhome, said SZFC had made significant strides despite challenges, attributing the club’s perseverance to its passion for the sport. He acknowledged the struggles of running a football club, noting that dedication and hard work were crucial to overcoming hurdles.
Yhome urged players to remain disciplined and perform well, emphasizing that the rewards of hard work and talent could be immense. He expressed gratitude to the guest players and encouraged them to contribute to the club’s growth while sharing their talents with the community.
During the event, the CEO of SZFC for NSL, Viketouzo Meyase, recounted the club’s journey. Neidilhoutuo Neibu Sechü, chief finance officer of SZFC for NSL, introduced the team’s official sponsors and partners and launched the official kit. The club’s squad for NSL 2025 was also presented, with Petevi Meyase and others introducing the players.
The club’s theme song was released by Kevisekuo Sechü, assistant professor at Margaret Shishak School of Music, Patkai Christian College. A special number was performed by Mengu Suokhrie, while the event was compered by Vichürielie Sechü and Asenuo Medoze and prayer was pronounced by Javitso Lhousa, executive secretary of WABCC.
