The 3rd sports meet of the Nsong Area Sports Association (NASA), kicked off on Wednesday at Lalong Village, Peren district, under the theme, “Arise and Shine”.
A press release issued by NASA president, Njokam Riame and games & sports secretary, Hainzinlung informed that this year’s event aims to promote sportsmanship, unity, and youth empowerment through competitive sports, creating a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and foster community spirit.
This year’s sports meet features a diverse range of team sports including Futsal (Men) and Volleyball (Men & Women), as well as individual athletic events such as marathon, long jump, high jump and shotput. Athletes from various villages across the region are participating in the event.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by general secretary of NCP 6 Tening A/C, Azanbo Nbung, as the special guest. In his opening address, Nbung highlighted the integral role that sports play in shaping a society by prom physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and social connectivity. He emphasized how sports transcend boundaries and bring people together, fostering a patriotism, cultural unity, and national pride.
The special guest underscored the importance of inclusive participation, encouraging more female athletes to take part in future sporting events. Nbung also acknowledged the positive influence of political support in advancing grassroot sports development, which has contributed significantly to such events.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Agaibe Newme and Idaisile Pame. The sports meet has received tremendous support from the local community, with a large number of spectators, community leaders, and sports enthusiasts in attendance.
