Global pop sensation Ed Sheeran is gearing up for his highly anticipated performance in Shillong, Meghalaya on February 12 as part of his ‘+ – = ÷ x’ India tour. The concert will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Polo, with doors opening at 4:00 PM.
Sheeran is expected to take the stage at 6:15 PM, and more than 26,000 fans are anticipated to attend. Tickets for the event have already sold out, with some reaching a hefty price of Rs. 30,000. Despite the steep ticket prices, fans are eager to hear Sheeran’s chart-topping hits like Perfect, Shape of You, Thinking Out Loud, and Bad Habits.
His 23-song setlist promises to keep the crowd engaged, with many singing along to every word. Sashi Anungla Ao, a fan who traveled all the way from Nagaland, expressed excitement ahead of the concert, saying, “We are eagerly waiting to witness global pop sensation Ed Sheeran perform tomorrow evening here in Shillong.”
However, some fans are holding out hope for a surprise unannounced performance, similar to Sheeran’s impromptu show on Church Street in Bangalore, which was cut short by local police. Cynthia, a dedicated fan of the singer, said, “Like me and many others, we’re expecting Ed Sheeran to surprise us with a secret performance in Shillong, the music capital of India.”
Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh underscored the importance of Meghalaya in India’s growing music tourism sector, adding, “The Prime Minister of India himself has highlighted the concert economy, and Meghalaya has become a trendsetter in this field.”
In preparation for the event, district authorities have issued special guidelines to ensure smooth operations for both concertgoers and local residents. “Children below the age of 5 will not be allowed at the concert.
Attendees may carry only mobile phones, keys, and wallets. Security will include three checkpoints before entering the stadium, with police handling the outer perimeter alongside the event’s security team,” said Vivek Syiem, District Police Chief of East Khasi Hills.
