Department of Land Resources conducted Watershed Yatra campaign at Anakiyimesen Village, Mokokchung on February 17, 2025. According to DIPR report, the welcome address was delivered by chairman of Anakiyimesen Village Council and keynote address was delivered by District Project Officer, Land Resources Department, Sentinungla.
Land and Water Conservation Pledge was administered by SDO (Civil) & Border Magistrate, Tuli, Nukshimatong. In his speech Nukshimatong raised awareness about the detrimental effects of human activities on the ecosystems.
He highlighted how unscientific coal mining, single-use plastics like packed mineral water bottles, polythene bags and the use of chemical weedicides and pesticides was causing significant harm to water bodies, soils, and plant life.
He emphasised that change must begin at the individual level and urged the villagers to cease the use of these harmful products and practices. He also called for collective action to ensure the well-being of the community and the sustainable development of the region.
The event also featured cultural performances, including a skit by students of the Government Primary School and a folk dance by the Youth Department of Anakiyemsen Baptist Church. Jentiren Jamir, Femina Miss India Nagaland 2024, also delivered a short speech, inspiring the audience with her message of community engagement and environmental stewardship.
Other segments of this campaign involved activities such as the display and sale of Self-Help Group (SHG) products, showcasing local craftsmanship and entrepreneurship.
The afternoon session focused on Shramdaan activities, where the Anakiyimsen watershed committee engaged in soil and moisture conservation works near the Watershed site.
