The Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) has expressed concerned about the numerous forest fires that has been occurring under its jurisdiction, inflicting widespread environmental damage.

In a press release issued by SAYO action committee convenor, Mehevil Luho and Health & Environment secretary, Zhokedu Zhotso stated that SAYO emphasized its commitment to the organization’s “Bye-Laws 2021”, which extends to the whole of Southern Angami Areas/ Villages, binding individual/groups causing forest fire whether intentional or through negligence, penalties and judicial processes depending on the collateral damages caused.

SAYO therefore urged the general public under its jurisdiction to avoid causing forest fires and use precautions when working in their fields and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, SAYO in collaboration with Southern Angami Students Union alongside NSS volunteers from St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama, carried out sanitation drive at Dzükou Valley from March 14 to 16. The drive was specifically conducted in and around the valley with 34 volunteers. Compost pits were dug managing the collected trashes.

It informed that the SAYO will soon conduct mass sanitation drive along the Viswema route, Jakhama route and the Base camp, scheduled on “Earth Day”, April 22.

The organization further notified the visitors to Dzükou Valley, both foreign and local to kindly adhere to managing own wastes and move away from any acts that compromises environment sustainability.
