The Indian economy is demonstrating notable resilience amidst increasing global economic uncertainty, driven by a strong agricultural sector and improving consumer spending, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s latest monthly bulletin. Global economic stability is being challenged by escalating trade tensions and uncertainty regarding tariffs, leading to concerns about global growth slowdowns and increased volatility in financial markets. However, India’s economic fundamentals remain robust, highlighted by a decline in consumer price index (CPI) inflation to a seven-month low of 3.6% in February 2025, largely due to falling food prices.

The report emphasizes that India’s economic growth is supported by strong domestic demand, steady investment activity, and ongoing government infrastructure spending. Private consumption expenditure is rising, indicating robust consumer confidence and demand, while significant government spending has contributed to this growth. Key sectors such as construction, financial services, and trade continue to act as pillars of economic strength, with high-frequency indicators suggesting a sustained growth momentum moving into the fourth quarter of the fiscal year.

Recent developments also point to an upward trend in agricultural production, with increased estimates for foodgrains and oilseeds during the 2024-25 Kharif season. The manufacturing sector, while experiencing slight momentum loss, reported growth in purchasing activity and employment in February 2025, while the services sector saw strong business expansion. However, the reports note that ongoing foreign portfolio outflows have put pressure on domestic equity markets and contributed to currency depreciation, reflecting the challenges posed by the volatile external economic environment.
