A 65-year-old male patient from Nagaland has successfully undergone robotic-assisted gallbladder removal surgery at Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru. The procedure was performed by a team led by Dr. Sreedhara V, Director of GI, Minimal Access & Bariatric Surgery, highlighting the hospital’s expertise in advanced robotic surgery.
The patient, suffering from Acute Calculous Cholecystitis (ACC) due to gallbladder stones, had been experiencing severe abdominal pain for two weeks. Following diagnosis, robotic surgery was performed, completing the procedure in under 25 minutes. The patient was discharged within a day, experiencing minimal pain and a faster recovery compared to traditional surgery.
Robotic-assisted gallbladder removal is a relatively uncommon procedure in India, with fewer than 100 surgeons regularly performing it. Unlike conventional surgery, it offers greater precision, smaller incisions, minimal scarring, and reduced post-operative risks.
Dr. Sreedhara V emphasized that robotic surgery minimizes risks, ensures faster recovery, and prevents complications such as recurrent gallstones, infections, or jaundice.
