The inaugural programme of Plastic Waste Management Unit (PWMU) organised by Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Kohima Rural Division, was held at Chunlikha Block on March 27. The unit was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Tseminyu, Kikumsungla Jamir.
A press release by the division informed that Kikumsungla emphasized the urgent need for environmental responsibility, mentioning how the environment was facing severe destruction, and called for action to protect it for future generations.
She urged Village Councils, WATSAN committees, GBs, and other stakeholders to actively participate in waste reduction efforts by adopting sustainable behavioral changes, and also encouraged village leaders to take ownership of government assets installed in their villages.
The release informed a demonstration of shredding machine was also carried out. Meanwhile, Tseminyu District Green Initiatives has proposed to take over the operation & maintenance of the unit.
