Police have detained six out of eight suspects in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a woman in her mid-30s, whose body was found in a forested area near Pimla village under Chümoukedima district on April 7.
According to police sources, the woman—reported to be a local vegetable vendor and a mother of one—went missing after venturing into the forest to collect local vegetables.
Her partially nude body was later discovered by her husband, raising strong suspicions of sexual assault.
Police sources said that initial investigations led to the detention of five individuals, including the victim’s husband, for questioning. Later, three more individuals were taken into custody.
Of the eight detained, two were reportedly released, while six remain in custody as the investigation continues. Police have withheld further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
