The Nagaland Pencak Silat girls team has created history by securing 10 medals by six participants at the ASMITA Khelo India National Ranking Pencak Silat Women’s League for senior women. The event took place at Sher Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, Srinagar from April 5-8 2025, hosted by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation.
The Nagaland contingent was led by head coach and general secretary, Deep Kumar, whose guidance and dedication played a crucial role in the team’s outstanding performance.
These exceptional athletes have also won medals in the ASMITA Khelo India Pencak Silat Women’s League, North East Zone, held at DBC Indoor Stadium, Dimapur on March 17-18 2025 which was successfully hosted by the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association and served as a crucial stepping stone for their success at the national level.
The ASMITA Khelo India Women’s League is a flagship initiative under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. This league is dedicated to fostering women’s participation in competitive sports, providing a platform for young female athletes to showcase their talent at national and international levels. Sponsored and recognized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) the league aims to bridge the gap in women’s sports and empower athletes with opportunities for growth and excellence.
The historic achievement of the Nagaland Pencak Silat girls’ team marks a significant milestone in the state’s sporting history. Their dedication, hard work and perseverance have not only brought laurels to Nagaland but also underscored the potential of Pencak Silat athletes from the region.
The medalists in Tanding (Sparring) event are:
- Liike Kibami – Gold Medal.
- Avikali V. Shequi – Gold Medal.
- Niya Thono – Silver Medal.
- Hatneinem Khongsai – Bronze Medal.
- Hinokali – Bronze Medal.
In Artistic event the medal winners are: - Liike Kibami and Hatneinem Khongsai – Silver Medal in Ganda.
- Hinokali, Avikali V. Shequi and Liike Kibami – Bronze Medal in Regu.
