Kohima booked their place in the final of the 5th Late G. Rio Memorial Men’s U19 Inter-District Cricket Tournament 2025 with a hard-fought 3-wicket win over Wokha in the semi-final held at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Chümoukedima.
A disciplined bowling effort followed by a composed chase ensured Kohima’s progression to the tournament’s grand finale. Opting to bat first, Wokha found it difficult to build partnerships and were bowled out for 106 runs in 30.1 overs.
Yantsothung S Humtsoe provided a brief spark with 28 runs off 28 balls, but the rest of the lineup failed to contribute meaningfully. Kohima’s bowlers maintained tight lines throughout the innings. Solomon Awungshi delivered a brilliant spell, picking up 3 wickets for 19 runs in 8 overs, while Vizoletuo Zhale was equally effective, claiming 3/21 in 6.1 overs to wrap up the innings.
In response, Kohima’s chase wasn’t without hiccups as Wokha’s bowlers struck early and regularly, making the contest competitive.
However, Seyievizo Zaputou anchored the innings with a calm and unbeaten 32 off 56 balls, guiding Kohima across the line in 22 overs with three wickets in hand.
Wokha’s Krishna Kumar was the standout bowler for his side, returning 3/24 in 10 overs, making it a closely fought semi-final.
Dimapur advances to final with 6-wicket win Over Niuland
Dimapur secured their place in the final with a convincing 6-wicket victory over Niuland in the second semi-final held at the Sovima Cricket Ground, Chümoukedima.
Niuland, after being asked to bat first, struggled to gain momentum and were restricted to 112 runs in 41.3 overs. Jeetender top-scored with a patient 32 off 85 balls, but regular wickets disrupted the innings. Dimapur’s bowlers kept things tight and effective.
Samir Ali continued his impressive tournament form, taking 4 wickets for 14 runs in 7.3 overs, while Medempok Pongen delivered an economical and clinical spell, finishing with 3/15 in 9 overs.
In reply, Dimapur chased down the target steadily, reaching 114/4 in 35.4 overs. Shyerinlo anchored the innings with a composed 32 off 68 balls, guiding his team safely across the line.
Niuland’s bowling attack showed resilience, with wickets shared among Rohan Kumar (1/8), Suit Kumar (1/21), Jatin (1/24), and Darsh Choudhary (1/25), but the total proved too modest to defend.
Niuland defeats Chümoukedima by 44 runs
In the other match , Niuland emerged victorious with a 44-run win over Chümoukedima at the Sovima Cricket Ground, Chümoukedima. The match was marked by a composed half century from Jeetender Yadav and a strong bowling performance led by Abhay Tripathi.
After being put in to bat, Niuland posted a competitive total of 134/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Leading the charge was Jeetender Yadav, who anchored the innings with a well-constructed 56 off 50 balls, setting the platform for a defendable score. Chümoukedima’s bowlers shared the wickets, with Aloto Sumi, Akesho, and Viriekholie Dzeyie all picking up 2 wickets each, applying pressure at regular intervals and keeping the total in check.
Chasing 135 for victory, Chümoukedima’s batting line-up struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 90 runs in 19.5 overs. Aloto Sumi (22 off 19) and Akesho (21 off 33) offered some resistance, but the team fell short of the target.
Niuland’s bowling attack was sharp and disciplined, with Abhay Tripathi delivering an excellent spell of 3 wickets for 11 runs in just 2 overs, derailing Chümoukedima’s chase early on.
Peren seals 5-wicket win over Mokokchung
Peren secured a convincing 5-wicket win over Mokokchung in a fast-paced encounter at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium. The match was highlighted by a remarkable bowling display from Amrit Tiga, who played a pivotal role in Peren’s victory.
Mokokchung, opting to bat first, struggled to gain momentum and were bowled out for just 65 runs in 15.4 overs. Livoto top-scored with a quick 21 off 14 balls, but lacked support from the rest of the batting order.
Peren’s bowling unit was led by an outstanding spell from Amrit Tiga, who ripped through the lineup with figures of 5 wickets for 10 runs in just 3.4 overs, breaking the backbone of Mokokchung’s innings.
Chasing a modest target, Peren lost early wickets but managed to reach the finish line in 11.1 overs, with five wickets in hand. Amit Marak anchored the chase with a composed 20 runs off 26 balls.
Mokokchung’s Amongti Lkr tried to fight back with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs, but the low total left little room for error.
