In response to the State Government’s alleged unfair treatment regarding the nomination of District CCI representatives to the District Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has declared a “Democratic Indefinite Voluntary Business Shutdown” effective April 24, 2025. This decision comes after the government failed to address the CNCCI’s concerns and demands.
The CNCCI had previously appealed to the Hon’ble Chief Minister and issued a press release warning of a democratic protest if justice was not delivered by April 20. However, the lack of response from the government has compelled the CNCCI to escalate their actions in collaboration with nine aggrieved District CCIs.
The shutdown will primarily affect various business operations, including banking institutions, and comes as a peaceful protest against what the CNCCI describes as step-motherly treatment by the state government. The CNCCI has requested the public to be informed in advance about the shutdown.
Phase One Exemptions:
- Medical services
- Gas stations/petrol pumps
- Taxi services
Despite the shutdown, vehicular movement, educational institutions, and all government offices will remain operational as usual.
The CNCCI emphasized that participation in the shutdown is entirely voluntary and urged all District Chambers to ensure that the protest is peaceful, with no incidents of unrest.
The second phase of the protest will be discussed during the Executive Council Meeting scheduled for April 25, 2025, which will include the Presidents of all District CCIs.
