Fighters from The Combat Academy, Nagaland, put on a stellar display of grit and talent at the Agrani Fight Night Amateur Tournament, held on April 19 and 20 in Kolkata.
Under the guidance of head coach Khriemelie Metha, the team of five amateur athletes represented Nagaland with pride, competing against top fighters from across the country.
The Combat Academy fielded five fighters: Vivoto Tsukru (23, Featherweight); Petevino Suokhrie (22, Female Flyweight); Thanmi Angkang (29, Flyweight); Wungvamsem Raman (Bantamweight); Imkummendang Ozukum (Bantamweight).
Despite a setback on Day 1 with Imkummendang Ozukum pulling out due to a medical injury just before his scheduled bout, the remaining fighters carried the Nagaland flag high with a string of impressive performances.
Vivoto Tsukru emerged as one of the standout fighters of the tournament. He began his campaign with a dominant first-round submission victory via Rear Naked Choke (RNC) and followed it up on Day 2 with a second-round TKO win.
He capped off the weekend by winning the finals, securing a well-deserved gold medal in the featherweight division. In the female flyweight category, Petevino Suokhrie made a strong impression with a clinical TKO victory via a cross to the body, earning her a gold medal.
Thanmi Angkang, competing in the men’s flyweight division, showed his grappling prowess with a submission win by RNC. He advanced to the finals, where he fought hard but settled for silver after a closely contested match. Wungvamsem Raman, despite a valiant effort, was unable to progress further in the tournament.
