Mon district hosts1st Astro-Turf Tournament

Longpaho Sporting Club (L-SportiC), a youth-led initiative founded by spirited and like-minded individuals, hosted the 1st Pangting Cup Football Tournament, the first-ever astro-turf football tournament held in Mon District.

With the theme “Fostering Resilience through Football,” the event aimed to inspire the district’s youth and spotlight emerging football talent across the region.


The inaugural ceremony took place on April 22, with Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) S. Phangnon Konyak, gracing the event as the special guest.

A total of 11 teams participated in the tournament, including notable appearances by players from the I-League, Nagaland Super League (NSL), and other renowned footballers from Nagaland and neighboring states.

One of the highlights was the participation of 13-year-old Ramthaipu from Robin Khaidem Memorial Academy & FC, Silchar, Assam – the youngest player of the tournament.


The tournament culminated on April 30, with a grand closing ceremony attended by executive engineer, PHED Mon, Lutho Katiry, as the special guest. The final match saw a dramatic face-off between Mavericks FC and SP XI Mon. After regular time ended in a draw, Mavericks FC clinched the title in extra time with a goal by Laiwang Bohham, finishing with a scoreline of 2–1.


The Champions and the Runner-up of walk away with medals, certificates and a sum of Rs. 100,000/- along with trophy and Rs. 60,000/- respectively. The two semi finalists were also awarded Rs. 10,000/- each.


Paul of SP XI Mon was awarded the player of the tournament and Shahwa N Konyak of Langsa Hill FC was awarded best defender of the tournament. Kaipha of SP XI Mon begged the best goalkeeper while Eshong Konyak and Laiwang Bohham were awarded highest goal scorer.

The final individual prize was awarded to the youngest player of the tournament Ramthaipu of Robin Kheidem Memorial Academy & FC.
