Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has expressed dismay over the “pathetic state” of Kohima-Jessami Road (package 2) and served a seven-day ultimatum on the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to take immediate action.
In an ultimatum addressed to the executive director NHIDCL regional office Kohima, CSU president Pfhülo Sara and general secretary Kuzoto Swuro condemned NHIDCL and EPC contractor M/s Ratna Infrastructure Project Pvt. Ltd. for their “gross negligence and continued failure” to ensure the timely development and maintenance of Kohima-Jessami Road (Package 2).
CSU said despite multiple official representations, there had been no significant progress or tangible development on road stretch.
In light of the above, CSU has served ultimatum on NHIDCL to repair all potholes to ensure safe and smooth travel. CSU also demanded removal of landslide debris and other blockages; construct proper drainage systems to withstand the impact of the monsoon and mitigate rockfall and landslides.
Failure to act within the stipulated period, CSU said it would be compelled to initiate “stricter forms of protest and action”, for which the concerned agencies would be held fully responsible.
