District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Chumoukedima, convened its quarterly meeting on monsoon preparedness at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office conference hall on May 2, 2025.
Deputy Commissioner, Polan John, emphasized the need to assess and enhance the district’s readiness for the upcoming monsoon season.
He urged all departments to understand their responsibilities and implement proactive measures, stressing the importance of strict monitoring, effective planning, and timely submission of action plans.
At the meeting agendas such as: Incident Response System (IRS) notification, preparation of the District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP), formation of Village Disaster Management Authorities (VDMA) and Ward Disaster Management Authorities, identification of critical installations vulnerable to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) hazards, along with assessment of disaster management plans, SOPs, and mock drills, designation of safe zones in colonies and villages for emergency evacuation, vendor identification for ration and essential commodities supply during emergencies, including MoU endorsements and establishment of a District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) and provision of necessary human resources were discussed.
The meeting also featured PowerPoint presentations on monsoon preparedness action plans from various departments, including the Chief Medical Officer, SE Investigation Cell (WRD), Water Resources Department, PHED, Urban Development, Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, and Food and Civil Supplies.
The session concluded on a constructive note, reinforcing the district’s commitment to disaster management and monsoon preparedness.
