KLH observes Lotha Language Day

Kohima Lotha Hoho (KLH) observed the Lotha Yi Tsüngon (Lotha Language Day), on May 1 with Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe MLA as special guest at KLH conference hall.


The main purpose of observing the day was to foster awareness, protect and promote the indigenous language and pass it to the younger generations. Speaking at the occasion, Humtsoe said language encapsulates the heritage, culture and identity but lamented that indigenous languages are fast disappearing at an alarming pace.


Earlier, secretary Lotha Literature Committee, R. Ekonthing Lotha highlighted the significance of observing the day while folksong was presented by Wontsuthung Humtsoe and group.


Welcome address was delivered by chairman, KLH, K. N. Mhonthung Lotha. Pastor, Kohima Lotha Baptist Church, S. Mhonchumo Lotha invoked God’s blessings and the programme was chaired by cultural secretary, KLH, J. Mhathung Humtsoe.
