In compliance with directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the State government is set to conduct a comprehensive Civil Defence Exercise and Rehearsal across 10 districts on May 7, at 4 p.m. under the operational codename “Operation Abhyaas” across 10 districts.
According to DIPR report, the districts where the mock drill will be carried out include Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mon, Phek, Tuensang, Kiphire, and Peren. The public have been advised not to panic during the course of the mock exercise.
According to the plan, the following activities will take place. i. simulation: incoming air raids, activation of sirens, and implementation of blackout measures; ii scenario: fire incidents, search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation from buildings damaged in air attacks, establishment of temporary hospitals, and evacuation of civilians to bunkers or demilitarised zones.
Hourly situation reports will be sent from the State War Room to the Directorate General of Civil Defence (DGCD) Control Room in New Delhi.
The exercise will witness active participation from District Controllers, civil defence wardens and volunteers, Home Guard personnel (both active and reservists), and members from NCC, NSS, NYKS, schools, and colleges. The objective of the drill is to assess the operational efficacy and operational coordination of various civil defence measures.
