Nagaland observes World

Nagaland joined the rest of the country in observing World Red Cross Day on May 8, marking the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.


The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Mokokchung branch, organized a program at the CMO Conference Hall under the theme “On the Side of Humanity.” Honorary Secretary Dr. S.S. Akaba Longchar welcomed attendees, emphasizing the Red Cross’s dedication to humanitarian service.


ADC Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe praised Red Cross volunteers for their selfless service and highlighted the organization’s seven fundamental principles: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sentizungla Marina Yaden, vice chairman of IRCS Mokokchung, and Junior Red Cross members also participated. A total of six schools from the district joined, with 77 student volunteers contributing to the event.


In Wokha, the Indian Red Cross Society Wokha District Branch (IRCSW) organised a program at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, bringing together officials, students, and members to promote humanitarian service and social inclusion.


District Session Judge Seyielenuo Mezhii delivered the keynote speech, discussing the Red Cross’s global impact and its alignment with constitutional and humanitarian values.

Deputy Commissioner and IRCSW president Vineet Kumar welcomed participants, recognizing past members’ contributions to disaster relief and public welfare.
Honorary secretary Dr. K.Z. Ovung presented the 2024–25 activity report, highlighting relief efforts for victims of landslides, fires, orphanages, hospitals, and remote villages. Newly appointed office bearers, honorary secretary Nzano P. Kikon and treasurer Dr. Nchumbemo Ezung, were also introduced.


In observance of World Red Cross Day, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Chümoukedima District Branch organized a free medical camp at Tsüüma village on May 8, 2025, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, Chümoukedima.


The event began with honorary secretary Mhiesitsolie Khate leading the program, followed by an invocation by pastor of Tsüüma Baptist Church. Chairman of IRCS Chümoukedima District Branch, Vichütuolie Mere, introduced the teams, shared highlights of the Red Cross activities, and formally inaugurated the camp.
