The second edition of the Nagaland Potato Festival was held at Jakhama local ground, Kohima district, under the theme “Celebrating the Organic Products of Nagaland.”
The event, which took place on May 9, aimed to promote organic potato cultivation, provide a platform for local entrepreneurs, and create economic opportunities for village communities.
According to a DIPR report, the festival featured over a hundred stalls set up by local entrepreneurs from the Southern Angami region, along with participants from Kiphire and Wokha districts.
In addition to agricultural produce, the event showcased innovation and sustainable farming practices, with active participation from the Nagaland Agriculture Department.
Gracing the occasion as the special guest, Minister for Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, commended the dedication of farmers and stakeholders who have played a pivotal role in promoting Nagaland’s organic produce.
In his address, he underscored the importance of rural prosperity, stating, “If our villagers are prosperous, Nagaland will be prosperous. If our villagers are healthy, Nagaland will be healthy. If our villagers have a livelihood, then the people of the state will have a livelihood.”
His remarks reinforced the idea that agriculture and grassroots entrepreneurship are central to Nagaland’s economic development and sustainability.
The Nagaland Potato Festival not only celebrated the state’s thriving organic farming movement but also provided an important platform to highlight the role of grassroots entrepreneurs in boosting local economies.
