The Lerie Youth Organization (LYO), in collaboration with the department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, organized a free animal health care and vaccination camp at Lerie Panchayat Hall on May 10.
The event was part of the LYO’s upcoming silver jubilee celebrations and saw an enthusiastic turnout from residents, highlighting growing awareness of pet health and responsible ownership.
The camp began with an inaugural session, where LYO president Kuko Nuh welcomed the attendees. Pastor Arenla Imsong of the Good Samaritan Fellowship, Lerie, led the opening prayer, followed by a keynote address from Dr. Akangnungla, Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer (Dy. C.V.O), Kohima. She emphasized the importance of timely vaccinations in preventing zoonotic diseases and urged pet owners to be proactive in caring for their animals.
Veterinary professionals, including Dr. Akangnungla and Dr. Neisalie Khezhie, along with a dedicated team of staff, administered treatments.
A total of 244 anti-rabies vaccinations, 58 classical swine fever vaccinations, and 53 medical treatments for pets were conducted. Informational pamphlets on pet care guidelines were also distributed. LYO encouraged pet owners to follow the provided guidelines and continue practicing responsible animal care.
