Architect Richard Belho, chairman of Zynorique Initiatives Society, has urged Nagas to focus on economic sovereignty instead of relying solely on political solutions.
Speaking at the 47th general session and 16th excellency award of Ao Kaketshir Telungjem Dimapur (AKTD), Belho highlighted concerns about business confidence in Nagaland and the state’s dependence on government jobs.
He stressed that government employment should not be the only path to financial security, lamenting that entrepreneurship is often considered only after government job opportunities are exhausted. He pointed out that non-Naga communities actively explore business opportunities even in remote areas, while educated Nagas struggle to do so in cities like Dimapur and Kohima.
He defined economic sovereignty as ensuring local money circulates within the state, rather than being dependent on external sources. He also criticized short-term political thinking, comparing voter ID cards to cryptocurrency.
Belho also spoke about Nagaland’s rich biodiversity and untapped resources, encouraging the community to recognize its potential. He emphasized embracing technology, especially Artificial Intelligence, as many traditional jobs will soon become obsolete.
Encouraging mentorship, he said successful people seek guidance from those who help them grow. He concluded with a spiritual message, quoting the Bible: “Knock and the door shall be opened unto you; seek and you shall find.”
The event, chaired by Imnatila Tzüdir, included a prayer by Rev. Jongpong Pongen and a welcome address by AKTD president Imnatemsü Pongen. Seven HSLC and three HSSLC students, who ranked in the Top 20 of the NBSE exams 2025, were felicitated, with a cash prize for the HSLC topper sponsored by the family of late Prof. Lanunungsang.
Meanwhile, the new office bearers of AKTD were inducted, including Imnatemsü Pongen as president, Tonpangnichet as general secretary, Imliakum Pongen as assistant general secretary, and Yashikaba Aier as vice president for the tenure 2025 to 2027.
