Road repair work underway in Dimapur.

Road repair and blacktopping works have finally commenced at several key locations in Dimapur. Nagaland Post has been highlighting the deteriorating road infrastructure in Dimapur. Responding to the issue, the state government has identified and listed several roads for immediate repair under various development schemes.

One of the key stretches under repair is the severely-damaged Tajen Ao Road leading to the DC Court junction where blacktopping is currently underway.

Speaking to this reporter, SDO Urban Development, Dimapur Region, Tinuwati Longkumer disclosed that construction/blacktopping work along the stretch began on May 3, and the project was being executed under the Urban Development Department through the Central government-funded Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, with the contract for the project being awarded to M/s Zhakai & Co.

He said the total length of the road under construction was approximately 3,500 metre, covering the stretch from DC Court Junction to Clock Tower and from Dhobinala traffic point to Khermahal traffic point.

While the official completion schedule has been set for eight months, he expressed the hope that the project was likely to finish within a month, if everything went as per plan.

Tinuwati further disclosed that additional road projects had also been lined up under the SASCI scheme, which included blacktopping of Notun Basti Road (approximately 1800 metre), Nagarjan traffic point to railway station to Power House Colony, to old road over bridge (approximately 1500 metre), and Sunrise Colony, Burma Camp (approximately 1500 metre).

He also mentioned that the projects had been awarded to different contractors to ensure timely execution and quality control.
