The Yorübami Women Welfare Society (YWWS) building at Yorüba village near Chozuba in Phek district was inaugurated on Wednesday by former Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Dr. Chotisuh Sazo.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Dr. Sazo described the inauguration of the YWWS building not merely as the creation of a physical structure but as a symbol of collective strength, determination, and progress. He expressed hope that the building would serve as a beacon of hope and empowerment, a space where ideas would grow, skills would flourish, and lives would be transformed.

Dr. Sazo lauded YWWS for its ongoing efforts to empower women, promote self-reliance, and strengthen grassroots communities. He also commended the women of Yorüba for their role in producing leaders in various fields, notably mentioning late Vamuzo Phesao, former chief minister of Nagaland, who hailed from the village.

Highlighting the evolving role of women in society, Dr. Sazo noted a significant increase in the number of girls pursuing education, including higher studies. He further observed that women were increasingly engaging in entrepreneurial ventures, taking on leadership roles, and contributing economically to their families.

In the social sphere, he said women were raising their voices, standing up for justice, and redefining traditional societal norms. He acknowledged the growing participation of women in local governance and community development decision-making processes.

Dr. Sazo stressed that the role of women in uplifting society was vital and far-reaching. He noted their contributions in education as teachers and mentors, and in the economy as farmers, entrepreneurs, artisans, and professionals.

He emphasized the need to blend tradition with innovation, encouraging women to enhance traditional farming methods by adopting modern techniques while preserving cultural heritage. Earlier in the programme, YWWS chairperson Küvesetalü Lohe delivered the welcome address, while Sayinülü Nyekha chaired the event.
