Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) undertook a major cleanliness drive on May 16, clearing large amounts of garbage and waste that had accumulated along the sidelines of National Highway-39. The area, which had become a dumping ground and a makeshift shelter for beggars, was visibly transformed following the operation.

The cleaning initiative comes amid ongoing construction and strengthening work on a specific stretch of NH-36 in Dimapur. The affected portion — located below the flyover from the Blue Hill Police Assistant Booth to the Flyover Y-Junction exit — had been temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic to facilitate the curing of newly laid concrete pavement.

Initially scheduled to reopen earlier, the closure was extended until May 15, 2025. However, from May 16 onwards, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) have been permitted to resume travel along this stretch, while restrictions remain in place for Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs).

Authorities confirmed that the section under the flyover near Dimapur Railway Siding will continue to be closed to HMVs until further notice, ensuring the structural integrity of the pavement during the curing period.

The DMC’s waste clearance and the highway improvements reflect ongoing efforts to enhance urban sanitation and infrastructure in the city.
