Phek Town Chakhesang Students’ Union (PTCSU) has expressed concern over the recent transfer and redeployment of assistant professors from Phek Government College (PGC) without replacements, stating that the move will negatively impact students’ academic progress. The union also voiced frustration over delays in long-pending infrastructure projects at the college.

In a press statement, PTCSU highlighted that several departments would be unable to offer major courses due to the faculty shortage, affecting education quality and hampering the institution’s overall development in the long run.

The union criticized authorities for expecting the college to function despite an insufficient number of teachers, especially when more faculty members are needed after the introduction of NEP 2020 – FYUGP.

Citing examples from Science department, PTCSU noted that if the transfers proceed, some departments will be left with just one faculty member—far below the sanctioned number of posts. They further alleged that institutions in outer districts are being treated as secondary in importance.

PTCSU also expressed disappointment that the department of Higher Education has ignored its own service rules, which state that “a teacher posted at a particular place shall serve for at least five years before seeking transfer.” The union pointed out that some faculty members were being transferred even while still in their probation period.

Additionally, PTCSU voiced frustration over stalled infrastructure projects at the college.
According to the union, the staff quarters construction, sanctioned in 2013, remains incomplete, with only 50% of the work done after 11 years.

Similarly, the academic upgradation classroom project, sanctioned in 2021 with a 24-month completion timeline, remains unfinished, with less than half of the work completed.

As a key stakeholder and custodian of students’ welfare, PTCSU warned that it would take necessary democratic measures if authorities fail to address these pressing issues.
