NU inspection team visits NEISSR for permanent affiliation

Nagaland University (NU) Inspection Team visited the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), 7th Mile, Chümoukedima, Nagaland for the inspection towards granting permanent affiliation.


In a press release by NEISSR noted that the team was led by Department of Economics, Senior Professor, Prof. Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, as the Convenor, with Department of Sociology, Professor, Prof. Athungo Ovung and Department of Sociology, Associate Professor, Dr. Sandeep Gupta, as members.


In his address, NEISSR, Principal, Dr. Fr. C.P. Anto, highlighted the institute’s pioneering contributions to social work, peace education, and community service.

He emphasized NEISSR’s commitment to holistic student development and its unique role as the only institute in India offering a specialization in Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies under social work.

He stressed the importance of fieldwork that focuses on tribal engagement, community enrichment, and addressing the various social problems faced by ethnic groups in the region.


Dr. Fr. Mathew Thuniampral, praised the vision behind NEISSR and its efforts to cultivate leaders with compassionate hearts and open minds. Representing the Diocese of Kohima, he discussed how the Church envisioned the need for professional courses.


The inspection team, Convenor Prof. Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, appreciated the vision and progress of the institute. He pointed out the urgent need to address the increasing social challenges, despite India’s rapid economic growth. He emphasized that true development must be rooted in human values and social justice, highlighting the visible conflicts and inequalities in society.


In his address, Prof. Athungo Ovung encouraged students and faculty to maintain a positive attitude, dream big, and act with humility. He emphasized cultivating gratitude, self-esteem, and a desire for excellence, while urging greater engagement in research and innovation.


Dr. Sandeep Gupta commented the concept of the Peace Lab and appreciated NEISSR’s dedication to providing quality education.
