L. Kire, principal secretary Environment, Forest & Climate Change, went on a surprise visit to Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP) on June 15.
According to NZP director, Obed Bohovi Swu, the principal secretary, who also holds the charge of DUDA and Rural Development Department, inspected various activities, especially security measures, within the zoo. He inspected the conditions of perimeter fencing and the ongoing developmental activities within the Zoo. He expressed some apprehension regarding the weakening of the Zoo’s perimeter wall due to earth cutting adjacent to the zoo wall. He reminded the zoo staff to sincerely perform their duties in protecting the park.
He also urged the district administration to take action against the erring villages around the park by stopping all government assistance if anyone jeopardises the existence and development of the only Zoological Park in the State. He also said he would request the home department to provide adequate police personnel for the security of the Zoo.
