Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo released a hand book on basic forensic science compiled by inspector John Mukho Phom at Forensic Science Laboratory office building Dimapur on October 26.
According to DIPR report, Tetseo congratulated John Mukho for taking the initiative of bringing out the booklet which he said would be of immense help for the investigating officers. CP also encouraged that this should not be the last but the first step for bringing out more books. Tetseo observed that time has also come for Nagaland to lay more emphasis on scientific investigation as court cannot give final verdict without proper forensic report. He noted that the presence of Forensic Science Laboratory in the state has saved the state’s economy to a great extent as sending samples for scientific investigation outside was very expensive.
Describing Forensic Science department as the main backbone of Nagaland Police in the field of scientific investigation, Tetseo said “even the role of constables are very important in Forensic department as expert opinions becomes the most important evidence in the process of investigation.”
Further, CP advised the Forensic Science Laboratory staff to subscribe the latest journals to keep themselves updated. Also speaking on the occasion, UBI John Mukho Phom said that his main intention of bringing out the hand book was to make the investigating officers aware of the potentialities of various physical evidences in the course of investigation and also to be used as guidelines and reference purpose by the investigating officers of Nagaland Police.
Joint director State Forensic Science Laboratory, Khekali Sumi observed that the state has pool of talents in the field of forensic science and felt the need for promoting the available human resources. She informed that the government has approved and sanctioned 5 more divisions namely, documents, cyber forensic, biology, chemistry and polygraph divisions which she said was in the recruitment process.
