Dismayed over state government’s failure to initiate steps on its appeal for grant of central primary teachers (PT) pay structure to state PTs, All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA) has reiterated its demand for pay parity of central and state PTs, urging for “justice” to be delivered to teachers concerned.
In a representation to commissioner & secretary School Education & SCERT Nagaland, a copy of which was made available to the press Saturday, ANSTA reminded that it has submitted two representations earlier regarding the above issue- one to the then state chief secretary and the other to 6th ROP Anomalies Committee chairman.
Furnishing a comparative pay structure of state and central PTs which indicated a difference of Rs.1800 in grade pay for Grade III PTs and Rs.2000 each for Grade I and II PTs etc, association stated that there was wide disparity between central and state PTs not only in grade pay but existing and revised scales as well.
ANSTA maintained that though the effective dates for implementation of the 6th ROP for central and state governments were different- January 1, 2006 for central and April 1, 2010 for state-, it felt that pay structure of employees under one category should be the same.
Association opined that decisions on pay and allowances of public servants should be made through the perception of nature of duty, work load and public importance.
Also pointing out the fact that primary teachers had no promotional avenue in their careers, association urged upon the responsible authority to grant equal pay structure to state PTs as that of their central counterparts so as to give “clear-cut” stages for implementation of ACP/MACP scheme as well.
The representation was endorsed by ANSTA president Ponchulo Wanth and general secretary L. Asang.
