In a fresh development into the ongoing crisis in the Nagaland University, the Vice Chancellor, Prof K Kannan has reportedly “suspended” another eight Central Executive Committee (CEC) NUTA members.
Confirming this, sources in the NUTA said that the VC had issued “suspended order” letter on Friday to eight members of CEC, NUTA. However, the eight members were yet to receive the letter.
A NUTA official claimed that the suspension order was also confirmed by the VC’s office and disclosed the eight suspended members as GT Thong; John Sema; N. Savino; Lanusashi; Temjensosang; Pauline Alila; DP Chaturvedi and Kilangla.
It may be recalled that these eight members has jointly submitted a memorandum to the VC on August 26 demanding immediate and unconditional revocation of the suspension order served on the two NUTA officials. NUTA said two of its senior officials – Rosemary Dziivichu, president CEC NUTA and Dr. N. Venuh, secretary general, CEC NUTA were suspended by the VC on August 25 without serving any show cause notice or citing any reason by the authority.
Meanwhile, NUTA will hold a peaceful silent procession on September 1. The procession will start from NU office at 10.00 am and halt at Raj Bhavan, Kohima, where NUTA will call on state Governor, the Chief Rector of Nagaland University and submit a memorandum.
Teachers from all the three campuses- Kohima, Lumami and Medzhiphema, college students and some NGOs are expected to join and show their solidarity, NUTA officials said.
