A major gunfight was averted today when IRB personnel and NSCN (IM) cadres confronted each other near New NST colony, Kohima even as Police claimed it warded off the activists and restored normalcy. Police said IRB patrol party accosted a person moving about in a suspicious manner at around 10:45 a.m and interrogated him which led to the standoff lasting for about half an hour.
Panic stricken, shop owners downed their shutters and joined the pedestrians fleeing for safety. Meanwhile, police said an NSCN (I-M) functionary was taken into custody.
