KMC chairperson, deputy resign

Ahead of the crucial trial of strength in the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) slated for Friday, KMC chairperson Menuovilie Kesiezie and deputy chairperson Thejangulie Theunuo, Thursday submitted their resignation letters to the DC Kohima Sachopra Vero. DC Kohima in a press release said the resignations would take effect on the expiry of period of fifteen days from the date of receipt of the resignation letters.
In view of the resignation letters submitted by the chairperson and deputy chairperson, KMC, the ADC (Administration), Kohima, and executive officer, KMC, shall look after the day to day work of KMC office till a new chairperson and deputy chairperson were elected by KMC members. The DC further informed that the proposed meeting convened on September for consideration of no confidence motion stood cancelled.
Meanwhile, the incumbent chairperson in his resignation letter said that in accordance with Naga tradition and also compliance to the guidelines laid down for “both institutions,” he had tendered his resignation, while also admitting his own failure to comply with the “wants of some of my colleagues.” He however expressed gratitude to his colleagues, both members and staffs, for sacrificing their time and energy towards uplift of the capital town. He also thanked the Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industries, officials of various department and general public for their cooperation and support.
KMC deputy chairperson Thejangulie Theunuo in his resignation letter said he was stepping down taking into account the greater interest of KMC and its staff and the people of Kohima.
It may be mentioned that on August 25 last, eleven KMC members had moved a no confidence motion against the chairperson and deputy chairperson citing that the duo no longer enjoyed the confidence of the majority of the elected members in the house, thereby entailing a change of guard.
