Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has assured Nagaland Congress of safety and security of minorities in communal riot hit Orissa and in other parts of the country where minorities were under threat from communal forces.
Singh’s assurance came when Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president KV Pusa, MLA, called on him Thursday evening and apprised him of the prevailing situation in Khandhamal where minorities were being persecuted by some Hindu fundamentalist groups like VHP and Bajrang Dal.
The Prime Minister expressed equal concern with the Indian minorities, particularly in the backdrop of the ongoing violence in Orissa and assured that all possible means would be explored to contain such atrocities committed against minorities.
“Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has assured me to ensure safety and security of minorities in Orissa and rest of the country,” Pusa said.
Singh also condemned the Orissa incident, NPCC president added.
Pusa Thursday evening requested intervention of PMO so that no Orissa-like incident takes place in any part of the country in the near future.
NPCC president further claimed that the Prime Minister was ‘very concerned’ with alleged rampant corruption in the state by the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government. “The Prime Minister is very much concerned with the ongoing corruption in the state,” he said.
