Scores of prominent citizens of Khatkhati areas, over 60 of them, have sought the immediate intervention of the DGP Assam, DC and SP of Karbi Anglong district for retention of the services of S.I. Jayanta Kalita the O.C. Khatkhati who is under transfer.
According to the people of the area, soon after Jayanta Kalita took over as O.C. of Khatkhati, he has been a scourge of powerful mafia dons dealing in drugs and various illegal activities.
In their memorandum, the signatories stated that prior to the arrival of Jayanta, the law and order situation under Khatkhati was so bad that people felt insecure and lived in perpetual dread of various criminal gangs and insurgent groups from the district operating in the area.
They said the area used to be a hotbed of criminals who used to traffic in women, opium, drugs, forcibly collect illegal taxes, serve extortion notices and even kidnap people for ransom.
However, after S.I.Jayanta Kalita took over as OC Khatkhati, he undertook a series of cleaning up operations which led to eradication of terrorist and criminal activities and busting of criminal dens.
As a result of the proactive steps of S.I.Jayanta, the law and order situation has been under full control with people of the area living in peace and security.
The signatories said S.I.Jayanta had also held several meetings with public to motivate them towards working for peace and progress in order to prevent rise of criminal activities in the area.
As the efforts of peace and social uplift needed time, the signatories have urged the authorities to further extend the services of S.I.Jayanta for another period of one year in the interest of the public.
