Peace Channel awards peace builders

Recognising the courageous people who made exemplary contributions towards conflict resolution, violence and peace building in the society, Peace Channel Sunday awarded four individuals at an Inter faith prayer meet -cum- peace award ceremony.
Recipients of the peace award included Christina Thonte, Tobu village, Mon, Mary Konyak, Phor village, Meluri, L. P Therie, and Ahimsa Zhimo, Diphupar B village, Dimapur.
Speaking as the chief guest, MLA and former MP Rajya Sabha Apok Jamir, said “we are living in an environment which requires peace initiative” and the initiatives for peace should not be taken for name sake but be promulgated by deed.
He said all religion teaches about peace and people irrespective of all affiliations are in need of peace and want peace but “it is only a handful people who creates disharmony in the society” Referring to the contributions made by famous personalities like B.R Ambedkar Jamir said “we have seen people who have outcome atrocities to pave way for peace Sometimes we have to take risk to pave way for peace”
Exhorting the students he said “youths are the agents of change in the society it is your choice whether you want peace” He appealed to all start with healthy relationship within family, society and to show to others that a country like India with religious diversity could provide aspect of peaceful co -existence.
Patron Rt. Rev. Jose Mukala DD, Bishop of Nagaland in his exhortation said it was the bounded duty as an individual and a lover of society and neighbour to promote peace.
With the initiative to propagate peace and harmony in India, a two minute prayers by various religions including Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Bhuddhism, Jainism, Christianity and Brahmakumaris was offered.
Earlier, welcome speech was proposed by Rev. Fr. C.P Anto, director of Peace Channel, the programme was followed by cultural dance performance by Assisi Peace Club, Yimchunger Baptist Youth Fellowship, St Clare Peace Club and special number by Sharon Higher Secondary School, Peace Club.
The programme sponsored by Aircel Nagaland and was held at Christ Hall, Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.
