Nagaland Minister for Urban Development Dr. Shurhozelie Thursday said the media in Nagaland was second to none and that their services were highly complimentary, especially taking into account that they had been discharging their duties in an environment fraught with long-standing and unresolved political conflicts.
Talking to NEPS, the Minister said he understood the kind of environment the State media had been undergoing from time to time while discharging their duties.
Stating that media had played an important role in molding the society, Shurhozelie said the right of the people to speak out through a free press was a hallmark of a democratic society.
He also said that if the State media continued to render services and work with the present pace, “We (State media) can set a model for the whole of the country.”
The veteran regionalist also cautioned that a minister should never do anything to influence the media.
He further conveyed to the State media that they should give more space in the front page to developments and achievements.
“I feel bomb blasts, kidnappings, rapes, killings, etc. should not occupy the front page,” the minister added.
