Safety jackets for DMC sanitation staff

Taking into consideration the risks to live and safety faced by workers under Sanitation/Development department of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), the DMC authority on Friday distributed safety reflective jackets to the workers including supervisors, drivers and scavengers.
Convenor, Sanitation department, DMC, Kuhoi Zhimo who distributed the jackets said the vests (which would be luminous in the dark and nighttime) would go a long way in providing safety to nighttime workers and others whose shifts start from the wee hours everyday.
There have been reports of near-fatal cases encountered by sanitation workers in the wee hours between, especially from reckless and inebriated motorists.
While assuring that the municipal council was trying its best to make Dimapur cleaner, the Sanitation convenor also called upon the public not to give undue harassment to the sanitation workers.
Kuhoi also reiterated DMC’s appeal to public and shopkeepers to dispose of garbage and wastes only after 6 p.m everyday and not during daytime.
The jacket distribution programme was also attended by DMC members Simon Yeptho (Toll Tax in-charge) and Yanger Imchen (Roads & Bridges in-charge).
Meanwhile, in view of the Saturday’s mass social work in Kohima and Dimapur, the DMC has requested colony chairmen, GBs and elders to mobilize participants in their respective colonies and sectors.
The DMC also asked respective wards and colonies to dump the garbage/wastes of the social work at designated places and contact ph. 236813 so that the DMC trucks could come and collect the wastes.
