Pension benefits a legitimate right

Principal Secretary, department of personnel and administrative reforms (P&AR), C.J. Ponraj Tuesday has said that undue delay in payment of pensionerry benefits to retired employees is a crime. He said that pensionery benefits were a legitimate right of retired employees.
Addressing the meeting of pension nodal officers of various departments at secretariat conference hall Kohima, Ponraj said it was the bounden duty of the government to provide retirement benefits in time. Quoting 68 of the CCS (pension) Rules, 1972, principal secretary said delay in payment of pension was attributable to administrative lapses and there was a provision for fixing responsibility to officers and staff dealing with such pension cases. He therefore called upon nodal officers to accord importance to pension matters asserting that government aimed to extend pensionery benefits to the retired employees on the date of retirement from 2010.
C.J. Ponraj said all pending pension cases would be disposed off by 2010 as there would be less pension cases due to enhancement of retirement age from the existing 57 to 60 years. In this connection, he informed all nodal officers to submit the list of employees likely to retire in the next six months with all details to P&AR department.
Senior deputy accountant general, Nagaland and his subordinate officers who also attended the meeting had fruitful discussions with nodal officers with an aim to expedite the finalization of pension cases. According to an official bulliten, the house decided that pension adalat would be held on 15th of every month.
The house has decided to hold pension adalat in Police Department on December 15 and in school education department on January 15. The meeting also decided to conduct training of officers and staff dealing with pension on December 10 at ATI, in this regard, principal secretary informed all directorates to nominate at least two staff for the training.
