Remove tribalism from society: Imkong

State home minister Imkong L Imchen on Thursday called upon the students to remove tribalism from Naga society.
He said it was the bounden duty of every individual to remove tribalism.
Speaking at the 34th general conference of Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) at Yimyu ward Mokokchung, the minister also made it clear that customs and traditions should be carefully analyzed before adapting it, as many of Naga customs and traditions were no more relevant today. He at the same time also stressed that practices which were deemed beneficial should not be discarded.
The chief guest also dwelled on concept of respect and added that ‘respect’ has to be cultivated and has to be earned and cannot be imposed or demanded without justification. He also exhorted the gathering to be positive and responsive adding youth should not be pessimistic and negative thinking should be done away with. Earlier in the day, a panel discussion was held on the topic ‘inculcating the spirit of gender equality for a capable society’. The discussion was moderated by additional public prosecutor, Imtiakum Jamir, Dimapur.
A three-day conference is being held on the theme ‘capacity building’. Special highlights of the conference included topic presentations by various renowned speakers, panel discussions besides selection of Mr. and Miss OKM. More than 600 students from 19 villages/units have been assembled for the conference.
