Officers urged to be fair in dispensing responsibilities

Conference of officers of irrigation and flood control department at Japfü Ashok Hotel, Kohima on June 18 with parliamentary secretary, geology and mining, irrigation and flood control and border affairs Yangthungo Patton as chief guest.
While addressing administrative heads, head of department and other senior engineers of the directorate, the parliamentary secretary said irrigation and flood control department played a pivotal pillar in the socio-economic emancipation of the people especially agriculture-allied services. Agriculture being the main occupation of the people, he said, irrigation played an important role which can help bring about green revolution and change the living standard of the rural poor and appreciated the engineers under whose jurisdiction major AIBP projects could be completed and commissioned to farmers.
While stressing on the relevance and strength of the irrigation and flood control department, he said it was left to the department to improve the conditions of the farming communities of the state, and hoped manpower infrastructure could be strengthened in the department with creation of more post under various categories, at the same time, requested the existing functionaries in the department to re-dedicate themselves to speed up the work performance in a coordinated manner.
He also said transparency and accountability was important in discharging functions and duties, and called upon the officers to be fair in dispensing their responsibilities.
“The process of our schemes should be transparent and people friendly as this will ward off from cases under RTI Act and litigation in court…” he said and went on to add that every developmental activity should bring about positive impact on the socio-economic conditions of the rural mass.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary secretary thanked the organizers of the conference for the opportunity to share views with the officers of the department.
