Restriction of social mobility suspended

Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) has temporarily suspended the five days restriction of social mobility imposed on the Mao community within its jurisdiction Thursday with effect from 2:30 p.m. According to SAYO president, Seyievilie Peter, the decision for temporary suspension of the restriction was taken in view of APO’s request to the organization. The temporary suspension of the restriction came on the afternoon of the fourth day of its imposition after series of meetings and heavy pressure from different organizations including the apex organizations Tenyimi Peoples’ Organization (TPO), Angami Public Organization and Memei Council. The organization resorted to imposing the restriction on social mobility against the Mao community over land dispute in Kezoltsa/Kozü range with some neighbouring Mao villages and the alleged violation of agreement by some people from the Mao community by indulging in logging inside the disputed areas. On the other hand, the youth organization also expressed its unhappiness over the delay in resolving the dispute by the TPO which is handling the case.
