(NP)A combined team of Dimapur police and troops of 5th Raj Rifles caught a suspected gunrunner during a joint operation at Nagaland-Assam border near Dillai gate Monday morning, police said. According to Dimapur police PRO, the team recovered one M-16 assault rifle, 72 rounds of M-16 ammunitions, 66 rounds of 7.62 ammunitions, two M-16 magazines, five torch lights (sunlight), 16 pencil batteries, five pairs of slippers, a Bajaj discover motorcycle (NL 07E-6263) and cash of Rs.2000. The accused was identified as one Raju Timung a.k.a Robinson Timung (23), son of Monety Timung from Senshope village, Assam. PRO said the accused revealed that the consignment was meant to be delivered to the outlawed Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger (KPLT) operating in Assam. A case was registered against Timung. Meanwhile, SP Karbi Anglong claimed that the KPLT militants were on arms shopping spree using Dimapur as the main route.The SP disclosed that another accomplice involved in the racket managed to escape. In another operation, Assam police intercepted a Tata mobile carrying 13 quintals of rice meant for KPLT camp. Four occupants of the van were arrested near Chokihala area, supposedly KPLT linkmen. However, police said the real culprits managed to escape in the adjacent forest under the cover of darkness. The vehicle as well as the rice meant for the KPLT was seized by Assam police.
