The Kohima district administration on Monday demolished two residential buildings for encroaching government’s acquired area belonging to department of Higher and Technical Education. The buildings were located within the boundaries of government Polytechnic Institute, Kohima. Official sources said that Monday’s demolition drive was undertaken after several notices were issued by the government to the occupants for over two years. An eviction notice was issued later in 2010 where the occupants were made to stay till April 2010 on humanitarian grounds. However, official report stated that construction works continued, which eventually led to demolition of the houses on Monday morning.
