Chief minister Neiphiu Rio Friday inaugurated the Paramount Tea Industry at Tizit town, Mon district. Speaking at the inaugural function, Neiphiu Rio lauded the tea farmers for working hard and being patient in their labour in spite of many challenges and problems in the area. He expressed optimism that with the opening of the factory, farmers would be benefited, especially in selling their tea produce. He said government was ready to help the people in every possible way and would try to construct roads where people could bring their produce easily to the factory, DIPR reports said. The chief minister suggested that since Mon district is called the “Land of the Anghs”, the brand name of the tea production of Tizit could be named as “Angh Tea”. Rio also pointed out that there was a failure in the business sector like industries undertaken by government and encouraged private sector. On better connectivity of the area, Rio said his government was trying to connect train services up to Tizit town for which the central government was also taking keen interest. He also assured to construct a new public ground at Tizit. State minister for school education, SCERT Nyeiwang Konyak briefed the gathering about the history of the factory. Scripture reading and prayer was led by Rev. Pongsing Konyak while ADC Mon, Sarah Ritse chaired the programme. Representatives of the tea farmers shared their joys and highlighted their grievances to the chief minister, wherein they stated that earlier they encountered a lot of problems while selling their tea leaves to the factories in neighbouring Assam. They expressed happiness that the opening of the tea factory would make it easier for them to sell their produce. Samples of the fresh tea produced from the factory were handed out to all those present at the function.
