Small family: Overall development

DIMAPUR: Dimapur District observed World Population Day on the theme ‘Small Family: Overall Development’ at the district hospital Chapel Hall on July 11 with additional deputy commissioner Dimapur, Sedevikho Khro as the chief guest.

Sedevikho while addressing the gathering said population explosion needed to be differentiated in terms of quality and quantity population.  Citing the total population of India (1.21 Billon) he said India needed proper and comprehensive planning for its survival. 

He said in-spite of the largest population in the world, China had overtaken USA in world economy because of its comprehensive planning adding the Chinese society and the individual were contributing as quality population.

While delivering the keynote address, Dr. Yetovi Tuccu highlighting the history of the observance of the day said World Population Day began on July 11 in 1978, which was also the date when the world population reached the 5-billon mark. 

MOKOKCHUNG: Along with the rest of the world, District Health Society, Mokokchung observed ‘World Population Day’ at ISDP Conference Hall at Dr. Imkongliba Memorial Hospital on Monday, July 11.

The day was observed under the theme ‘Small Family: Overall Development’ and kicked off a campaign, ‘Population Stabilisation Fortnight’ at IMDH on July 11 by Nungsangmenla SDO(Civil).

Various NGOs, head of departments, community leaders, and medical officers attended the programme.

Delivering the keynote address, senior dental surgeon Dr. N Moa Jamir said with the observation of ‘World Population Day’, it aims to spread awareness on various issues like importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights. Dr. Moa also challenged the gathering and said “Every citizen has a responsibility to achieve this goal and we can achieve it by working together”. 

SDO (C) Nungsangmenla while delivering a short speech appreciated the doctors, nurses and those involved in educating the public about importance of family planning in the society. She also assured all support and logistical help from the district administration to the district health society, Mokokchung. Later, SDO (C) launched population stabilization fortnight at IMDH which would be observed from July 11 to 24. 

To mark this occasion, family planning camp would be conducted at district hospital Mokokchung. During this fortnight, free sterilization of both men and women and ‘Copper T’ insertion will be conducted at the hospital.

WOKHA: Population Day and Population Stabilization Fortnight was observed at Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital Wokha on 12th July 2011 with Deputy Commissioner Wokha Rovilatuo Mor as the Chief Guest.

Speaking during the inaugural function the chief guest said, “Quality is more important than Number” and stated, to stabilize population one should all contribute his /her mind to achieve a healthy and stable population. Due to over population, one’s needs cannot be taken care of by these available resources, he said and also added, individual family should be conscious to stabilize population to ensure quality life. He also lauded the department efforts in creating awareness and expressed hope that people will get the right message for the benefit and upliftment of individual life.

Wokha deputy chief medical officer Dr. W.N. Ezung, who spoke on the main theme-“Small Family Overall Development”, stressed on the need for India and China to urgently take up steps for stabilizing the population as these two countries are the 2nd and 1st in the world who are contributing to the human population bomb. The inaugural function was chaired by CMO Wokha, Dr. N.M. Kithan while vote of thanks was proposed by Medical Superintendent, Wokha, Dr. Kevingule Khro. 

PEREN: World Population Day was also observed in Peren district at PTWWO hall on July 11 with Smita Sarangi IAS, SDO (c) Peren as the chief guest. The function was attended by representatives from various departments, NGOs, Pastors, Dobashes and youth leaders. The function was chaired by Khriethoneo DPO, DAPCU. Dr. B. Yanger chief medical officer in the welcome speech quoted “This day is to create awareness about the explosion of Population”.

Smita Sarangi IAS, SDO (c) Peren, in her speech urged the gathering to think towards the future. By controlling population growth, she cited, one will surely lead a health happy life. She further cited that, now was the right time to start population control as people do not know how long the natural resources could sustain human beings. Later, discussion hour was held which was led by Dr. Rhenbon Kikon SMO, DH Peren.  

Dr. Tosole, MS, DH Peren while delivering the speech on the theme “Small Family, Overall Development” cited that the World Population Day was a United Nations programme, held in order to create awareness on various family issues. She also encouraged the gathering by citing that population growth should be a concern for every individual and not only medical department alone and further encouraged the gathering by saying that foremost priority now should be to control population growth so that least privileged people would have a place to exist with the privileged people.
