A woman was critically injured when a mentally unsound man attacked her with a machete (dao) at Viswema village about 22 Km away from the state capital here Friday morning. The person identified as Purakhu (45) of Viswema village reportedly attacked the lady identified as Puchozole, (27) also hailing from the same village with a Naga dao (machete) at the latter’s house, critically injuring her.
According to Police, the accused came to the victim’s house at around 10 .00 a.m., wearing a red blanket, hiding the dao beneath and suddenly attacked the lady, hitting her on the head, right arm and back causing grievous injury.
The victim was rushed to the nearby CHC where she was assisted first-aid and then referred to Naga Hospital, Kohima for treatment. The accused after committing the crime escaped from the scene leaving behind the weapon (dao), slippers and the blanket and was still absconding. Police later seized the weapon.
Meanwhile, police has launched a manhunt to nab the culprit who is said to have fled towards the nearby jungle. However, there was no report of arrest of the accused till the filing of this report.
