Expressing dismay over what it described as the “attitude of indifference” by the state government towards June 30 incident at Inavi village and subsequent 15-day ultimatum served by it, Western Sumi Hoho has decided to remove the ‘war gates’at Beisumpuikam.
Asserting that government “miserably failed” to fulfill any of its demands, the WSH president L.K. Achumi and general secretary Vikato Shikhu, in a statement, said the hoho thus convened an emergency meeting July 23 and resolved to remove war gates erected at both ends of Beisumpuikam village on or before July 27. It warned that government would be held solely responsible for any untoward incidents that could occur on account of its action.
The hoho said it had in its earlier ultimatum demanded that government apprehend those involved in the attack on Inavi village, in which two village elders were killed and two others seriously injured.
The WSH said it had also demanded the government to inform about the disappearance of the body of slain village council chairman Inashe.
They said also asserted that even after ascertaining the identity of the attackers, “the so called illegal Zeliangrong volunteers for forest and environment protection claimed responsibility for the attack”, the government failed “to take any action to book the murderers of Inavi villagers and the murderers are running scot-free”.
Therefore, the hoho said in view of the “lack of governance” by the state government and failure to protect its citizens, fulfill its legitimate demand, it was constraint to take own course of action to protect its interest.
